How the Cloud Contributes to Modern Television

How the Cloud Contributes to Modern Television

Television has come a long way since its inception, and modern entertainment is more accessible than it has ever been before. Technology has played a large part in the dissemination of this entertainment, so we thought we’d take a look at how the cloud has contributed to making television the cornerstone of leisure that it is today.

Communication is Vital

Communication is the key that unlocks the potential for collaboration, and in the business of entertainment, you’re not going to get far without collaboration. All it takes is one look at the end credits of a movie to see just how many people are involved in such a massive undertaking. Without effective communication and project management, no production can hope to be successful. Each production can effectively be split into smaller productions that are more specific and each require their own unique skill sets to complete.

With so many moving parts, it’s no small wonder that these productions require a considerable investment into effective collaboration and communication tools. These tools must have the following traits:

  • Scalable on demand
  • Available from remote locations
  • No long-term contracts

The logical conclusion is that every production now utilizes cloud computing in at least some capacity. These productions are large and, in turn, require large cloud platforms in order to function properly, and these platforms need to be hosted in places that are accessible and allow for ease of data transfer throughout the course of the production process. The cloud makes the production process easier than ever by providing access to collaborative platforms and spaces for content review, whether it’s in-the-moment adjustments or post-production.

The Cloud Has Contributed to Film Production

Considering the impressive impact the cloud has had on business, it should come as no surprise that it has also impacted film productions in a considerable way. It was once believed that the cloud could never offer the hosted computing, services, and affordable storage needed for these massive projects, but this is no longer the case. The countless applications needed for film production can all be accessed through the cloud, thereby changing film production forever.

Prior to cloud computing, capturing film was an analog process, utilizing technologies such as film to capture images and tape to capture sound. It was then spliced and synced through an analog editing process. Nowadays, the process looks much different; it can all be done digitally through virtualized applications in a secure cloud-based environment.

Productions can set up their cloud platform to run their own project management, complete with all of the storage, collaboration, and communication tools they need to succeed. These cloud platforms can also store an immense amount of data, yet production companies will scale their needs accordingly so they are paying the most efficient price for their needs. They have a singular IT infrastructure throughout pre-production, production, and post-production.

Your organization is probably wondering what it can do to take advantage of cloud computing, and we have news for you: it probably already is, in at least some form. Macro Systems can help you get the most out of your cloud solutions and help you implement new ones, too. To learn more, call us at 703-359-9211 today.
