Another Reason to Update to Windows 11

Another Reason to Update to Windows 11

As you should be aware by this point, the Windows 10 operating system is reaching its end of support on October 15 of this year, meaning that it will no longer receive updates of any kind afterward, including critical security updates. What you may not know, however, is that Microsoft is following suit and pulling Office support around the same time.

Listed below is why it is so imperative to make these adjustments, and not just for the sake of using Microsoft’s suite of tools.

Despite Years to Upgrade, Most People Still Use Windows 10

Statistics say that, as of December 2024, Windows 10 still held an outrageously large global market share: 62.7 percent, compared to Windows 11’s 34.12 percent.

There are numerous reasons for this, most notably the reluctance many have had to replace hardware that falls short of Windows 11’s requirements… despite the announcement that Windows 10 would be ended in October 2024, putting a looming deadline on the horizon. Hardware is expensive, after all, and is only set to grow extremely more so very soon. This makes it challenging for anyone—business IT manager and personal user alike—to justify purchasing an entirely new machine (or, in the case of the business manager, machines) when nothing is currently wrong with what is being used.

That being said, this is only the case if the huge security risks of using unsupported software are ignored.

Microsoft’s Plans Should Make the Importance of Upgrading Crystal Clear

On October 14, 2025, Microsoft 365 and Office applications (including Word, Teams, Outlook, OneDrive, and others) will no longer be supported on Windows 10.

This is significant because this demonstrates that Microsoft is effectively leaving that 62.7 percent behind in favor of the 34.12 percent with applications that will gradually become less secure, increasingly buggy, and generally less reliable.

So why is Microsoft taking this hard stance? User security is a big reason, but it is essential also to acknowledge that Microsoft has firmly committed to Copilot AI, a Windows 11 feature.

Regardless of why, businesses need to pay attention to signs like these as a clear indication of how critical it is to be ready for the abandonment of Windows 10 well ahead of time.
